Communities & Collections

DSpace, the open source repository used for ZORA, organizes content using a hierarchical structure built around communities and collections.

Communities in ZORA generally reflect the hierarchical structure of the faculties. Within each faculty, communities represent the organizational structure down to the level of an institution or clinic.

The lowest-level community in a hierarchy is usually at the institution or clinic level and contains a collection. This hierarchical structure organizes repository content and supports browsing, administration, and access control.

Collections are nested within a community and can belong to only one community. In ZORA, collections organize repository content within institutions and clinics, making it easier for users to browse and manage related materials.

An item is the main record in the repository. It represents a single intellectual work (for example, a journal article, a book chapter or a thesis). An item contains metadate describing the work and one or more associated files. Every item must belong to a collection and can be mapped to additional collections.
