ZORA Data Model

ZORA Data Model

The ZORA data model describes all entities and their relationships to one another, as well as their metadata fields and other fields in the repository.

Overview

ZORA is based on DSpace-CRIS, which combines the DSpace publication repository with CRIS functionalities (CRIS = Current Research Information System). ZORA’s data model includes the following entities:

  • Publications: Journal articles, book chapters, monographs, dissertations, etc.

  • People: Users, researcher profiles, ORCID links

  • Organizational units: Represented as communities: UZH, faculties, departments, institutes

  • Journals: List of journals used at UZH, including information on legal status, article processing charges (APCs), and Read&Publish agreements

  • Publishers: List of journal and book publishers used at UZH

  • Software: List of open-source research software developed at UZH (starting in 2027)

Metadata Application Profile

The metadata profile lists all fields used in ZORA, along with explanations.

Metadata Standards

The following metadata standards are covered by ZORA:

  • Dublin Core (dc) and DCMI Metadata Terms (dcterms) for bibliographic description
  • Datacite Schema for data exchange and DOI registration
  • OpenAIRE Guidelines
  • COAR Resource Types vocabulary
  • MARC for interoperability with library catalogs (swisscovery, National Library)

Use of Metadata

The use of metadata is governed by the ZORA Policy.
